Depression is considered one of the most common and significant mental disorders of the modern era, with wide-ranging effects on individuals’ personal, family, and social lives. In view of the importance of understanding this illness, and with the aim of raising students’ awareness about depression—its causes, symptoms, and treatment methods—as well as creating a platform for scientific exchange between students and professors, a student scientific seminar titled “Depression” was held at the Abu Rayhan Conference Hall on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The event was organized by the Faculty of Curative Medicine, the Department of Internal Medicine, and with the cooperation of the Faculty’s Student Committee.
The seminar was attended by the respected Dean of the Faculty of Curative Medicine, professors, and a large number of students. The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and was followed by a seminar presented by Mr. Sayed Arzi Hossein Mousavi, a medical student. In his presentation, Mr. Mousavi explained the fundamental concepts of depression, discussed its psychological and physical effects on individuals, and elaborated on the internal, environmental, genetic, and social causes of the disorder. He also addressed the psychological and physical symptoms of depression and introduced various treatment approaches.
The seminar was well received by both students and faculty members, creating a suitable scientific environment for discussion and exchange of ideas.
