On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a student scientific seminar titled “Analyzing the Position of BRICS in the New World Order with Emphasis on Afghanistan’s Potential Membership – Challenges and Opportunities” was held in the Abu Rayhan Conference Hall. This seminar was organized by the Faculty and Department of Economics in collaboration with the Sub-Committee on Research of the faculty.
The seminar began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by an opening speech by Dr. Mohammad Ishaq Mahdawi, who introduced the theme of the seminar and explained its significance and necessity to the attendees.
The event was attended by university leadership, department heads, faculty members of the Economics Department, the head of the Career Counseling and Employment Center, and students from the Faculty of Economics.
The first presentation was delivered by Mr. Ayat Khan Ehsanipour, an economics student, who provided an overview of the BRICS group, including its history, formation, the concept of the new world order, and the main objectives of the BRICS alliance.
The second presenter, Mr. Ali Mirza Halimi, discussed the evolution of BRICS, the motivations of its member states, and key developments in the geopolitical landscape. He also elaborated on the key challenges and potential opportunities that Afghanistan might face in relation to possible membership in the bloc.
The program concluded with final remarks and prayers by Dr. Hashemi, one of the faculty members of the Economics Department, who emphasized the importance of holding such seminars and encouraged students to actively participate and engage in academic discourse.
